Top plate of machine has a large cut out that allows easy viewing of orthogonally aligned scales graduated in mm.

Test core held in a vice with plywood protecting its nylon jaws. Steel tool is loaded into tool holder. 70N load supported by three rotate-able supporting members

70N load is held by one hand so that the three support members can be rotated to allow the mass to slide down onto the steel tool.
